Mornings can be very hectic here (not that we're unique in this) and this morning was no exception. While I was hurrying to get myself all dolled up and ready for work Todd got the boys dressed and was getting them breakfast.
When I came out I completely overreacted to what Tayson was wearing. He had on a blue and red shirt with black slightly-too-small sweatpants (the kind with elastic around the ankles). So I told him he had to change and was not allowed to wear sweatpants to school. There were no clean jeans so Todd had done the best he could but I knew I could do better so I marched right downstairs and got some nice brown pants and another shirt. Now he could go to school.
Getting him to change out of his favorite Star Wars Legos shirt wasn't easy, but it just didn't match the brown pants so it HAD TO GO. After several minutes of fits, crying and fighting he was dressed appropriately and eating his breakfast. I had won the battle!
Then tonight during dinner Tayson said to us "guess what? someone at school today was wearing sweatpants and he didn't even get in trouble."
Why in the world do I even care. What an absolute waste of energy to get all worked up over something like a pair of sweatpants.

Oh boy! It's like the movie Groundhog's Day..... I have had to deal with the exact same thing many times. I just totally gave up on Allen, because he really really enjoys not matching..... He's been like that since he was 2! So I don't see that it will ever change.
I totally do the same thing and I found out that it has nothing to do with them and everything to do with me. I don't want anyone to think that I would be a mismatched mother :) I think we all have to just get over it. Which is a lot easier to say then to do.
I was totally laughing at this because it sounds like something I'd do. My dad would wear those kind of sweatpants into public all the time and I finally shamed him into believing it isn't socially acceptable:) I can see myself doing the same thing to poor JT.
Moms are just too much. But, really if they didn't insist that we wear clean underwear, where would we be?
The way I solve this problem is by letting my children ONLY own clothes that I won't mind them wearing in public....no sweat pants here. :)
ANd, I slowly let LG start owning sweatpants...after about 8 years, when i was sure that he got it through his head that he couldn't wear them out. :)
I have to admit, I was a lot like that with Adam and Derek. I don't know if I just got tired or decided it was good for them to feel the independence in choice once in a while. I try to make sure my kids look nice most days, but if it's a big deal to them, I usually decide it's not worth the fight. I have convinced them that sweats are pj's so I rarely have that problem. Jaxon just always wants to wear basketball shorts, even when it's below zero.
