New Year's Eve

What a day today was.  

Timmy took Megan on a walk and proposed to her.  WOO HOO!!!  I am seriously so excited to for them to get married.  And if Megan can survive the week with us in close quarters of Brianhead she will do just fine in the Schultz family.

The other thing that happened is that while skiing Roman fell of the ski lift.  He fell more than 25 feet down and was taken to the Cedar City hospital.  It was so scary being at the cabin and not really knowing how bad it was or what we could do to help.  My parents went to the hospital to help give Roman blessing and bring the other boys back.  Roman had fluid in his lungs a tear in his liver and couldn't walk.  Talk about some serious prayers going on.  He was released the next afternoon and on his way home and now less than a week later you'd never know anything happened.  I saw him climbing the stairs happy as could be.  I am so grateful that nothing permanent happened and that he's such a strong kid.  

Other fun things that happened:  Claire started running a fever and Sophie threw up until about 2:00 am.  UGH!

Another day of tubing

The next time we went tubing we had a lot of kids and not enough spots for adults to go.  We had 13 kids and 2 adults with tubing passes.  So we had most of the adults man the bottom.  They would pull the kids off the run, get them through the line and hooked up.  Then I was at the top of the run and I would pull them over to a lane and push them down when it was time.  It was about a 20 minute turn around so I had a lot of extra time between kids coming up.  I just started helping out the lifties at the top and other mom's with kids.  They all knew me by name - it was classic.  And they gave me a thank you of 1/2 price skiing if I wanted to come back because of all my hard work.  Ha ha.

I was so excited for the chance to take all the kids skiing in Brianhead.  I am from a family of skiers and I really wanted my kids to learn and love skiing.  I live in Utah - the greatest snow on earth - we have to ski.  Brianhead was the perfect opportunity to teach them.  So one of the days we were there we took all the kids to the slopes and Timmy got to teach 10 kids to ski.  Good thing he's a pro and love to do it.

Getting the skis rented and on the kids was probably the hardest part of the day.  10 total sets of rentals and 10 kids to take care of.  Good thing we had lots of adults there to help.

All the kids started on the small bump before going up the ski lift.  They learned the basics on how to push their feet out and stop themselves.  Timmy had 5 sets of clamps to hook the front of their skis together. 

With a few basic instructions the 9 year old boys were off.  Tayson, Adam and Ryan pretty much did their own thing and even went back with Steve a second day to ski more.  Tayson loves skiing.  Yippee!

 

Todd and Sophie

This little girl loved the mountain.  She hated her ski boots until she got her skis on and got up on the mountain.  She kept saying things like "wheeeeee"  "I go faster"  "I no want to stop".  She got busted a few times for not stopping when she was told to.  I think this one is going to be just like her uncle Mark and Grandma - she's a speed demon!

Since we didn't have enough clamps for everyone we did 2 shifts.  Claire was in the second shift and I think she might have had more fun in the lodge drinking hot cocoa with Megan and Christine than actually skiing.  Who can blame her?  That's one of my favorite parts of skiing too.

After Claire fell Timmy just scooped her right up and got her back on her feet. 

The cutest thing Claire did was when we were on her last run down the hill I put my legs out and Timmy went through them then we told Claire it was her turn and without a second thought she just ducked down and skied through my legs.  She stood for a split second then crashed.  It was so cute and she was very proud of herself for doing it. 

Brianhead - Day 1

Technically this was day 2 - but the first day consisted of driving and eating.  The drive was quite crazy.  We made it about 2 hours out and Jan's car made a funny sound so we pulled over and found she was missing a belt (or 2...) So she was going to get it fixed and rather than have her stay in a tiny little place alone Todd stayed with her.  So the kids and I drove to Vegas and picked up Adam.  We were going to wait there but they were about 2 hours behind so we just pushed on.  The directions I had for getting to the cabin from the south took me up a canyon 20 minutes to find a closed snowed in road.  So I turned around and went another 20 miles up the freeway to take a different route.  Unfortunately, between having Tayson as a co-pilot and my lack of being able to understand the crazy directions I got lost again.  I got a hold of Steve and he gave me good directions so I finally made it to the cabin.  Almost 10 hours in the car with me and 5 kids wasn't the best way to start the vacation.  A good meal and fun games made it all better though.

Todd M. got up early to get a little fishing done in the freezing cold water.  He caught 3 fish but didn't keep them because he wasn't sure if my dad was serious or not when he said he'd clean them if Todd caught them.  We still aren't sure if he was serious or not.

After 2 hours of tubing we headed to the lodge for lunch.  It was crazy with all those kids!

The Beach, Sophie & the dog

We decided to take advantage of being in beautiful California weather and went to the beach.  I did my long run for the week (about 11.5 miles) and met the crew at the beach.  It was so nice to run in shorts and a t-shirt.  Amy and Todd passed me around mile 8 and they did some awesome support from the van.  They took my finished water bottle and gave me another one to drink from while driving along side me so I wouldn't have to carry it.  It was awesome!

The kids really loved being in warm weather and even though the water was as cold as ice they all played in it and were completely soaked within minutes of getting there.  Next time I guess I should bring swimsuits even if it is December.

While we were there Sophie got attacked by a dog.  It was so crazy.  We were standing there and this dog about the size of Soph pounced on her and was biting and scratching at her face.  I'm sure the pup was playing but it was so aggressive it was scary.  All at once Todd, the dog owner guy and lady and I all ran to Sophie.  The dog owner guy got there first and kicked the dog away right as Todd was throwing a punch to get the dog off her - since the dog was thrown with the kick Todd's punch landed right on the lady's face.  It was crazy.  He full on hit her in the face (it was an accident but still he punched a girl!!)  Speaking of the girl you can see her pictured above in the brown skirt and red sweater - yep he punched that nice girl.  Anyways the dog owner guy had picked up Sophie fast and handed her to me then grabbed his dog.  I took her away to calm down (she was screaming pretty hard) and Todd stayed to apologize for the punch and talk to the owners.  The dog had all her shots up to date and luckily didn't break any skin on Sophie.  She had several scratches and bruises and was pretty shaken up but other than that she was fine.  Once she calmed down we went over to the dog owners and she told them that she was fine.  The lady was still totally shaken up.  We ended up staying at the beach for a while longer and Sophie was fine with all the dogs around her.  She said once "me like dogs except the gray ones with funny ears, them is mean dogs".
