Reading Help!!!
Help! Help! Help! Every time I sit down to read with Tayson or have him read to me we end up with him in timeout and me completely pissed off. I have tried reading right before bed as a privilege of getting to stay up late, I have tried reading as soon as he gets home from school before he can go out and play. What can I do to get my kid to love, like or even endure reading? I know he knows the words but he refuses to read them. I am beyond frustrated and we are just starting the school year again and need to read and do homework every day.
Are there good books to buy that 6 year old boys will want to read?
Is there a good way to encourage him without just telling him all the words?
Are there reading games that work?
Is there a book I should read to learn how to teach him better as a parent?

School Lunch
Last week was the first week of first grade for Tayson and I thought he would like buying school lunch. It was a huge treat for me when I was little and I thought it would be easier. (Someday I will need to do a post on my school lunches growing up)
The first day of school he came home and told us he had pizza and white milk (because he couldn't find the chocolate milk). Then on Tuesday he came home so excited that he found the chocolate milk. By Friday he was done with school lunches - he told me he wanted to take a lunch instead. When I asked him why this is what he told me. "I have to say my name so loud to the lunch lady, then I have to put in my number and it is really hard to push the buttons and it hurts my fingers and you don't get a treat when you buy lunch but if you bring one you get a cookie."
So he went to the store with me on Saturday to pick out lunch foods and a lunch box. We had such a hard time finding a lunch box and are still on the lookout for a good Star Wars or Spiderman one. When we were looking at Wal-Mart for his lunch box he said "I guess we should have gone on the Internet to see what stores you can get a lunch box at." That's my boy!!!
**Addition to this post: Today when Tayson came home from school I asked him how it was bringing his lunch to school and he told me he was bummed because it was "pizza day" and he wanted to buy lunch AND he lost his lunch box today!!! Are you kidding me?
I thought I would add my favorite tribute to the lunch lady for your viewing pleasure.

Flashback Friday

This is a picture of Sherry and I in 1973. I absolutely LOVE the difference in our hair at 2 years apart. I cannot believe how bald I was. I am so glad that both of my girls have hair.
Sherry and I are pretty much the same age difference as Claire and Sophie. I won't say it was always easy, especially since I was the younger of the two. But I wouldn't trade it for anything. I love having a sister so close in age, we have so many great memories together. I hope that Sophie can look up to Claire for inspiration the same way I have always had Sherry. She sets the bar high and is absolutely amazing. I owe so much to you Sherry - thanks for always being the best at everything you did!!!
Mark Your Calendars
Todd is taking my boys camping on Sept. 12th for fathers and sons. So I think this is a great night for the girls to get together. Let's have a bow making party!!! All you need to do is bring some clips, ribbons, if you want flowers or anything those too and a hot glue gun. Then we can swap ideas, ribbons and talent of course.
Don't worry, we'll also eat yummy food and we can watch a chic flick in the theater room. Let me know if you want to come - you're all invited!!!!
**More Info**
Bring your girls if you want. They can watch a movie or I have a playroom or they can hang with us ladies!

Tubes
Claire got her tubes in this morning. We had to wake up at the crack of dawn to get her bathed and to the hospital by 6:30 am. She was so funny this morning because she woke up so perky and happy. She was actually chatting with the Nurse who was checking her in and Claire never chats with anyone! It just about broke my heart when the OR nurse took Claire out of my arms and they left for the surgery. The procedure was very fast and they had her back to us in no time at all. She was so feisty while the drugs wore off and everything irritated her. She fell right asleep when we got her home and slept for 2 hours. Then she woke up like nothing happened this morning and has been in a good mood ever since.
Speaking of tubes....she even managed to get into major trouble while we weren't paying attention to her. She got into my purse and took out my makeup bag and pulled out 2 tubes of lipstick. She colored all over the carpet in the front room and ruined 2 rather new tubes of my favorite mac lipstick. Thank goodness for Google where Todd learned that hairspray will take lipstick out of carpet. He sprayed and scrubbed and now the carpet looks pretty much like it did before. We're going to steam clean it this weekend and hopefully it will be as good as new.
I thought these pictures were cute of Claire this morning.

Todd and Claire in the waiting room. Claire wore her new princess pj's.

This is the sweet outfit they gave her for surgery...she even brought the orange slippers home.

The hospital gave her this doll to color and then she got to bring it home.

Post surgery...she wasn't very happy at this point.
