Picture Tag

I got tagged by Jackee a few weeks ago...and I'm finally getting around to it.

Rules:
1. Go to the Document/My Pictures site on your computer.
2. Go to your sixth file.
3. Go to your sixth picture.
4. Blog about it.
5. Tag six people.

This is Tayson's first Christmas sitting by his stocking. He still has that little white puppy dog, Sophie wore those jammies this past Christmas, the black and white brochure in front of him was something for Todd and I from his mom. We all went to a dinner/theater and saw Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat. Which was a blast! We have read that book so many times, until just recently when Claire got all crazy on it and pulled off the text on the pages (I thought those books were child proof until Claire came along). The little STINKER!

Sophie looks so much like Tayson - except that he was a lot bigger than she is.

As for tagging people - I know most of you have already done this but if you haven't I tag you! It's fun to walk down memory lane.

Flashback Friday - High School Tag

I saw this tag on Lindsay's blog last week and thought it would be a fun one to do.

1. Did you date someone from your High School?
Nope. I didn't date until I got to the Y – and boy did I have fun making up for the missed high school years.

2. What kind of car did you drive?
A brown datsun 210. What a car too. My oldest brother George bought it before his mission then it got passed down (I'm #4) when you stopped you had to keep one foot on the clutch (it was manual) and the other foot on the brake and gas at the same time or it would die. It also had some battery problems occasionally which would require a quick wiggle with a screwdriver (which I kept in the glove box) and it would shock you sometimes when the car would finally start. Yep, we had to drive this peach of a car to the prom because the other cars were all in the shop. George washed and waxed it and it looked worse when the dirt wasn't covering up the scratches on the outside. So many great memories with that car.

This was the only picture I could find of my car - see the prom question below to see why George is helping Denise into my car.

3. What was the most embarrassing moment of High School for you?
I don't get embarrassed to easily – but it was probably when I was walking up to the front of Psychology to turn in my test and got my shorts pulled down. I pulled them up and kept walking like nothing happened. Or when they were announcing cross country results on the loud speaker one day and they called me “Gil Schultz” instead of Kathy because Sherry told them that's what I liked to be called. (someday I'll have to do a post on that nickname)

4. Were you a party animal?
No. I was one of the few Mormons in my school and everyone knew that I was Mormon and didn't drink, chew, smoke, etc. I went to the parties after the football and basketball games but never partied.

5. Were you considered a flirt?
Nope.

6. Were you in Band, Orchestra, or Choir?
I played the clarinet my freshman year to get my music credit but didn't have to be in the “band” since I was on the drill team. Then I didn't play again after freshman year. Good thing everyone in my family made fun of me when I practiced, even Sheba (our German Shepard) would howl so I never practiced.

7. Were you a nerd?
No. I got good grades, but I wasn't a nerd. You might think so reading that I didn't date, got good grades and didn't party. But I was never a nerd.

8. Were you on any Varsity teams?
Yes. I ran Cross Country (2 years), Track (1 year), Drill Team (2 years) and I even got a varsity letter for grades (lame).

I posted these pictures a while back...but they fit well with this post so I threw them back in.

Freshman Year

Sophomore Year

9. Did you ever get suspended/expelled?
Nope. I was such a good kid in H.S. I think I got detention once for tardies.

10. Can you still sing the fight song?
I don't think my school had a fight song...do any of you siblings of mine remember one?

11. Who were your favorite teachers?
I can't for the life of me remember their names...my Biology teacher (he was hot and just out of college), my Trig and Pre-Calc teacher (Mrs. Bell maybe?). I hated my Algebra teacher!

12. Where did you sit during lunch?
We had a closed campus so we had to stay at school. I just sat with my friends. There was really nothing special about lunch at FHHS - unless you include the lunch money story (this will need to be it's own flashback post someday).

13. What was your school's full name?
Francis Howell High School

14. School mascot?
The Vikings

15. Did you go to Homecoming? With who?

Sophomore Year. I went with a big group.

Junior Year. Group again...remember I didn't date!

Senior Year. I went with Budge Tungate.
Sara and I before the dance.

Budge, Duane, Danny (my bro) and Alex
(do those guys look awesome or what).

Can you believe I doubled with my younger brother to homecoming and my older brother to prom? At least they were never my dates :)

16. If you could go back and do it again, would you?
Sure. Everyone needs to go to high school. I didn't love or hate high school it was just part of my life. If you asked me this about college I would say “heck yea!” I loved college.

17. What do you remember most about graduation?
Graduation was lame for me because I graduated a semester early and came back just to walk so it wasn't anything special. I do remember the guy who sat next to me (can't remember his name) was a big jock and he wanted to wear my honor society ropes so I let him.

Every year on the last day of school we had a huge shaving cream fight.

18. Where did you go Senior Skip Day?
I was in Paris for senior skip day, and senior prom, and the whole second semester of my senior year.

How do you like the sweet pegged jeans and Reebok high tops I'm sporting in Paris?

19. Were you in any clubs?
Honor society and DECA

20. Have you gained some weight since then?
I graduated from high school at 106 pounds – what do you think?

21. Who was your Prom Date?
Prom...seeing as I didn't date in High School I hadn't gotten asked yet my mom decided to set me up. Set me up! Yep, I went on a blind date to the prom my Junior year. I don't even remember his name (Mike maybe) and I have no pictures with him. Obviously it was a memorable date. The best part is that my neighbor asked George (who was already home from his mission) to the prom. So I doubled with my RM brother, we drove the brown datsun and I had to climb into the back seat of a 2 door car with my blind date that my mom set me up with!!!

George and I before prom. I have several pictures of us together and none with my date. Ha ha!

22. 10 year Reunion? Are you planning on going?
My 10 year was a long time ago and I didn't go. My 20 year is coming up in 2 short years and I doubt I'll go that either. I hear the reunions are just a bunch of drunk people none of whom I have kept in touch with. So it's not very tempting.

23. Looking back, what advice would you give yourself?
I would do high school the same so I don't know what advice I would give myself. Maybe I could tell myself to keep running cross country so that I could be a faster runner now that I'm older.

Memory Tag - you're all it

1. As a comment on my blog, leave one memory that you and I had together. It doesn't matter if you knew me a little or a lot, anything you remember!

2. Next, re-post these instructions on your blog and see how many people leave a memory about you. It's actually pretty funny to see the responses. If you leave a memory about me, I'll assume you're playing the game and I'll come to your blog and leave one about you.

I've been Tagged....

OK I got tagged by Kristine so here goes. This would be better with a little input from Todd....so I'll see if I can get him to add his comments to the post.

1. Where did you meet your husband? We met at work (Nu Skin). A mutual friend told Todd he should ask me out so he did. I had a very strict rule that I NEVER dated anyone at work. Breakups weren't really my specialty and usually I went with avoidance instead of dealing with issues so work relationships weren't much of an option. I mean I didn't want to find a new job just to avoid some guy. Luckily for Todd I made an exception.

2. First thing said. I have no idea. Most of our early "courting" was over instant messenger. That way we could say anything and not feel or look stupid. Plus we would end up chatting all day at work - it was a pretty smart way to go now that I look back.

3. First date. The first time we actually went out and Todd paid was a lunch date. To keep it safe of course. We went to a Japanese restaurant that Todd picked and he didn't eat anything because he doesn't like any form of Asian food. Then a couple days later we went out on what I consider our first official date. One of Todd's friends was in a band that was playing at UVSC and he wanted to go see them. I told him I couldn't go out until after step aerobics which ended at 6:45 pm. His car (the 1972 Plymouth Fury) was broken down at the time so I had to drive. So I told the aerobics teacher I would be leaving step a few minutes early for a date (which she still remembers and reminds me about all the time ... how she "let" me leave to go on a date with my husband) I went home, showered, got ready, went a picked up Todd then we were off to the concert. Apparently the concert started at 7:00 (which I really didn't know until we got there) and we showed up around 7:45 for the last 2 songs (oops). Then we went out to eat at Chevy's (where we have never been since).

3. First kiss. That would have been the night after our first "official" date. What can I say...why date unless you know you're attracted? I will say that Todd kissed me first although I didn't make it hard for him. :)

4. How long did you date? Not very long. I swore I would NEVER be one of those BYU girls who met someone and got engaged and married fast. Well I had to eat those words after meeting Todd. We met in the summer of 1999, were engaged in November of 1999 and married December 21, 1999. So really we dated a few months and were engaged even less. Oh well, when you know you know.

5. Where did you get engaged? Funny story. Todd and I had tickets to fly to California for the weekend and I was really busy at work that week. So I kept trying to postpone our trip. (I mean he told me he didn't have a ring yet ... and I believed him so what was the big deal?) Apparently, everyone on my team and my boss knew so they forced me to go and changed deadlines for me so I wouldn't stress. By the time we got in and settled I was tired. Todd wanted to go to the beach and walk around but I wasn't really in the mood so I said no. He kept pressuring me saying how much he wanted to go so I told him to go by himself. Then he kept making a big deal about it and made me feel guilty so I went but not happily. The entire drive to the beach and while walking on the beach I was frumpy and had my arms crossed and was just downright mean. Then he drops to his knee and asks me to marry him. Boy did I feel stupid! So of course I said yes and took the ring then the beach patrol drove up and kicked us off the beach. But not before I could get a good look at my ring in their headlights. I'm still surprised to this day that Todd actually wanted to marry me after the way I was acting that night. He must have been too nervous to realize what a jerk I was being.

6. Where did you get married? In the Salt Lake City Temple. We had to be there at the crack of dawn, I think I left my apartment at like 6:00 am to get there on-time. I remember being so nervous right before the ceremony when it was just Todd and I. Then when we got in the sealing room I wasn't scared anymore and it was amazing. It was so nice to have both of our families there and a few of our friends with us.

7. How did the reception go? It was perfect. We had our reception at Thanksgiving Point which was all inclusive so that planning was very easy. Todd and I went down twice to meet with our wedding planners and picked colors, food, cake, flowers, music, the room, etc. Then at the reception the wedding planners were there taking care of us telling us when it was time to cut the cake, throw the bouquet, etc. They were even good enough to get me a Coke when I thought I might fall asleep on my feet talking to people. The funniest part of our reception was at the end my dad was gathering all our presents and putting them in his car for us and one of the presents was a gift basket that was for our wedding night. We went over to grab it before my dad loaded it up and he saw that there were bunny ears in the basket and put them on. Needless to say, those had to be thrown away after the image was burned into our memories. :) I have to thank my parents for being willing to give us a great reception .... I figured they didn't mind paying a little extra to finally get me married off. I don't think they ever thought it would happen.

8. Where did we go on our honeymoon? Because of when we got married (Dec. 21st) we did Christmas before our honeymoon. So we stayed at the Grand America in Salt Lake for 2 nights. The first night one of Todd's family friends called us at like midnight to ask us if we needed more pillows. We had just gotten room service (strawberry and cream waffles...yummy) so he actually thought it was legit and asked me if we needed more pillows which really cracked them up. The next day we had Christmas with my family then headed down to California to spend Christmas day with Todd's family. After Christmas we left on our official honeymoon. We drove up the PCH to Big Sur. Sadly I got very sick our entire honeymoon. I was so sick when we left Todd's house his grandma tried to get me to wear these huge blue blocker sunglasses - which I couldn't do. But I got a really bad inner ear infection so every motion made me sick and I threw up from the beautiful winding roads and when we went hiking (not pretty). For the most part I spent the week in bed sleeping. Todd was so happy when we got to a hotel with a Nintendo so he had something to do.

9. Do you have a song? Kind of. When we were dating/engaged I got to start listening to rap music since that is one of Todd's favorites. So we always said "What Y'all Want" by Eve and the Ruff Ryders was "our song". It's not romantic in any way but it still makes us smile and we call it our song.

So let's see I guess now I get to tag someone else....Kris, Kami (just to get you to update your blog) and Lacey. BTW...I feel like a true blogger now that I have been tagged. :)
